Pakistani transport terms, explained.
Bilty, chalan, khata, SRB and the other words Pakistani transport offices use every day, defined in plain English.
- Biltyبلٹی
- The consignment note a transporter issues when it accepts goods or a vehicle for carriage. It records the consigner, the consignee, the route, what is carried and the freight.

- The record of all bilties a transport office has issued, traditionally a paper book.

- Chalan (Challan)چالان
- In transport, the trip manifest that travels with a truck and lists the carrier, the driver and every consignment on board. The same word is also used for a traffic fine.
- LoadYar prints a Delivery Chalan from each carrier trip.

- Consigner (consignor)
- The party that hands goods or vehicles to the transporter for delivery, usually the customer who pays the freight.
- Consignee
- The party that receives the goods or vehicles at the destination, such as a dealer or a yard.
- Freight
- The charge for carrying a consignment from origin to destination.
- Gate passگیٹ پاس
- A document from a factory or plant that allows goods or vehicles to leave its gate. In vehicle logistics, a plant gate pass lists the vehicles released to the transporter.

- Car carrier
- A truck and trailer built to carry several vehicles at once, used to deliver new cars from assembly plants and ports to dealers.
- Khataکھاتہ
- An account ledger showing what a customer owes, or what you owe a supplier, built up from invoices and payments.

- Munshiمنشی
- The clerk at a transport office or yard who writes bilties, keeps registers and manages dispatch.
- In LoadYar this is the Dispatcher role.
- SRB
- The Sindh Revenue Board, the provincial authority that administers Sindh Sales Tax on Services.
- LoadYar invoices apply Sindh Sales Tax on Services at 15%.

- An invoice that shows the taxable value, the sales tax charged and the tax registration numbers of both parties.

- WHT (withholding tax)
- Income tax that the payer deducts from a payment and deposits with the government on the payee’s behalf.
- LoadYar can show a 7% income tax withholding on an invoice.
- NTN
- National Tax Number, the income tax registration number issued by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
- LoadYar prints your NTN on bilties, chalans and invoices.
- STRN
- Sales Tax Registration Number, the registration number for sales tax.
- LoadYar prints your STRN and your customer’s STRN on invoices.
- CNIC
- Computerised National Identity Card, the national identity card issued by NADRA.
- LoadYar keeps each driver’s CNIC and prints it on the chalan.
- HTV licence
- A heavy transport vehicle driving licence, required to drive trucks.
- M-Tag
- The electronic toll tag used on Pakistan’s motorways.
- LoadYar records toll tax and M-Tag charges as trip expenses.

- Token tax
- The annual provincial motor vehicle tax.
- Fitness certificate
- A certificate that a commercial vehicle is roadworthy, renewed periodically.
- Route permit
- A permit allowing a commercial vehicle to operate on a route.
- Clearing agent
- An agent who handles clearance paperwork, for example at a port, for a fee.

- Driver advance
- Cash given to a driver for a trip or against salary, to be accounted for or recovered later.

- The National Highway running from Karachi through Hyderabad, Sukkur and Multan to Lahore, Peshawar and Torkham.
- Trial balance
- A list of every ledger account’s balance, used to check that total debits equal total credits.
